Situated in North East England, Durham
is bordered by the counties of
Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and
Wear and North Yorkshire. The county
is comprised of ten districts, of
which Hartlepool, Darlington and
Stockton upon Tees are unitary
authorities. The other districts
include Teesdale, Wear Valley,
Derwentside, Sedgefield, Chester-le-
Street, Easington and the City of
Durham, containing the county town.
Durham city is the main transport
hub for the area, with a train
station on the main East Coast line
and lying on the A1/M1, the main
road artery between Edinburgh and
London. The nearest airports are
Newcastle to the north and Durham
Tees Valley to the south.
|
Taxicabs,
or taxis are readily hired
at the airports and may have
set fares to major local
destinations. There are many
taxi hire companies
throughout Durham
offering a wide range of
single pick up or contract
services.
Taxis generally come in two
different types, a standard
4 door saloon or sedan type
licensed to carry 4
passengers or a minibus licensed to
carry 8 persons. Only
registered taxis are
permitted to pick up
passengers in the street at
designated taxi ranks or
when hailed by individuals.
Availability will vary on
time of day, with night time
and weekends being the
busiest times.
Durham Taxi and
Private hire cabs can be
called from private or
business addresses at any
time and may be either black
cabs or private four door
vehicles not more than five years old.
|

|
Although typically licensed to carry
four persons, many hire companies
will offer larger vehicles capable
of carrying up to seven people and
also specially fitted cabs for
carrying disabled passengers and
wheelchairs. These vehicles are
often in short supply and should be
hired well in advanced. Whether your
requirements are for a single
journey or a contract hire over a
period of time our Durham Taxi
services listed here will carry you
safely and in comfort to your
destination.
